I feel obligated to share the kind of information like that found in this News.com special feature article.”Cracking the Code of Teens’ IM Slang“. Parents are the first line of defense in protecting their children from digital predators. But, parents must take an active role in keeping up with the capabilities of the technology that we expose our children. Slang has been around for as long as I can remember. Slang is not new, but the usage is new. Your teen may be all safe and warm in their bedroom or the family room just chatting with their friends online. What’s wrong with that? You can’t hear what they are saying so you cannot monitor the conversation and if you don’t understand all the abbreviated slang used online, then you still can’t monitor the conversation. Hopefully, you can find some useful resources in the article.

I’m not saying that all teens abuse this technology, but the possibilitly of abuse exist. Parents – don’t forget text messaging on the cell phones use this same type of slang.

I call that syrupy sweet, calorie laden, rot your teeth, make you belch beverage that I love so much, soda – when speaking in generic terms. However , I only drink Coke Classic. I hate it when I order Coke and they bring me something else, and I know it. Some establishments will say, “We have Pepsi. Is that ok?” And I reply, “No, it’s not ok. Just bring me sweet tea or water.” Here is a map of the US that shows the breakdown of what this tasty beverage is called. Click on a state to see the breakdown by county. They left out the choice of soda-pop.

You may be a victim!. Read this to see if you may suffer from neophilia. Wikipedia gives an interesting definition for this disorder. Wikipedia defines groups that seem more predisposed, “…groups…seem to share characteristic hacker tropisms for science fiction, music, and oriental food.” I found this quite amusing. Back in the day, if you just had to have the latest and greatest it was referred to as spoiled or pampered. So I got all those thrashings for begging for “that new thing” and it wasn’t even my fault. I’m depressed now (which I know is not my fault) – excuse me as I withdraw into my secluded little world for a while.

Someone is always trying to figure out the “target audience”, so advertising dollars can produce the greatest return on investment. I have mentioned that we recently went on a TV diet – limiting ourselves to five hours per week. We record the shows we want to watch and then on Friday evenings we watch our shows. Please understand that the TV is on during severe weather, we just aren’t parked in front of it. TV can be a Time Villain if we allow it.

Those that know me know that I love to shop online – no parking, no crowds and my order is brought to me. Well, I am experiencing (for the first time) a problem with an online order with Amazon.com. I have sent three emails asking for assistance, with only one unsatisfactory and useless reply from someone with an “out sourcing” name. So I thought, “Fine, I’ll just call customer service.” If you have never attempted to find the customer service number on Amazon’s website, I would say don’t bother. Thank you Google for letting me know that I am not the only person to have this dilemma. A quick Google search provided many links that contain the number:

US Customer Service
Phone toll-free in the US and Canada: (800) 201-7575
Phone from outside the US and Canada: (206) 346-2992 or (206)-266-2992
Another direct line: (206) 266-2335
E-mail: orders@amazon.com (I think this will still work, but no guarantees)

E-mail address and the fax numbers seem to go on- and off-line with some regularity. Readers have also had luck with the following addresses:
resolution@amazon.com
charge-inquiries@amazon.com
jeff@amazon.com
(This last e-mail address sends back an note from Amazon that using it won’t help you. There may be nobody reading the e-mail that comes to this address.)

Amazon’s rebate center: 1-866-348-2492
Amazon Corporate Accounts:1-866-486-2360

Snail mail to customer service
Amazon.com, Inc.
Customer Service
PO Box 81226
Seattle, WA 98108-1226
