T.V. the Time Villain
There has been many hours spent studying and debating TV viewing. Someone is always trying to figure out the “target audience”, so advertising dollars can produce the greatest return on investment. I have mentioned that we recently went on a TV diet – limiting ourselves to five hours per week. We record the shows we want to watch and then on Friday evenings we watch our shows. Please understand that the TV is on during severe weather, we just aren’t parked in front of it. TV can be a Time Villain if we allow it.
For more about the impact of television on our families and some helpful hints, I want to direct you to an article on Family Life Communication’s website entitled Twelve Tips for Taming the TV.

Recently I got a DVR from my cable company because I didn’t have time to watch TV during the time my favorite show was on and I wanted something to watch later in the night when nothing was on. Problem is my favorite show is one hour long so at 11pm when I have time to watch tv then it is on until midnight and that means i’m up till at least then, not getting enough sleep. So I decided the dvr goes back and if I see it fine, if not, it will be a rerun at some point.

A few years ago, we went on a T.V. fast! Unlike most folks now-a-days,we only have 1 T.V.,so that part was easy.
For 3 weeks we went without it,and we noticed a change in attitudes(for the better) more communication, and unity that we had not experienced before.
Though we have not done it since,we were able to identify weaknesses, and adjust our habits, and give priority to our family relationships.

Well, Karon talked to you both about it and now we are on a force diet! Rebekah looked at Karon like, “You have lost your mind!” Elizabeth is on it because Mama Betty’s TV went out and she borrowed Elizabeth’s until she can get another one. I am missing many CSI’s, but its not that bad (don’t tell Karon, she’ll just say, “I told you so!”) I like the name “Time Villain!” That is what it is. I wondered why I didn’t have time to do certain things around the house, well, with this forced diet, now there is more! Still not enough, but more. So, I guess I’m saying a begrudging “Thanks!’
